Today, the neighborhoods surrounding Brooklyn, NY are grieving the loss of two young lives.

On March 5, a driver along the streets of Brooklyn ran over two young children, immediately killing them. According to New York Post, the driver was said to have been ‘out-of-control.’

The children were identified as 4-year old Abigail Blumenstein, daughter of Tony awards- winning actress Ruthie Ann Blumenstein, and 1-year old Joshua Lew, the son of Ruthie’s friend Lauren Lew.

Authorities say that the 1-year-old was inside the stroller and the car dragged the stroller about 100 feet down the street.

Ruthie Blumenstein had recently announced her pregnancy, and the report said that she is in critical condition from the incident.

According to,NBC NewYork4, the police say that the driver, Dorothy Bruns, has medical issues and that was the reason for her reckless driving.

Bruns claims she was avoiding another car and that was what made her swerve into the young children. She remembers nothing except waking up behind the wheel, not knowing that she had hit anyone.

Today, Thursday, March 6, the Blumenstein family is said to have “broken their silence” according to Fox News.

A family member tweeted “Thank you for your prayers over our families and holding us in our pain. We are extremely grateful for your kindness and generosity.”

Ruthie is also no longer in the ICU, and her unborn child is unharmed

The Twitter post continues with “Please continue to pray for the Lew and the Blumenstein families as we process the unthinkable and lay our grief in the loving arms of Jesus. Joshua and Abigail are now resting in Heavenly peace and joy,” the post read.
